Samsung has just taken the covers off their new desktop hard drive that offers a generous 2TB of disk space. Called the EcoGreen F4EG, the 3.5-inch hard drive builds on its predecessor, the F3EG, by providing 2TB of space that is spread over just three platters. Roughly speaking, this translates to each platter housing 667GB of data each, which according to Samsung, makes the F4EG the world’s highest density hard drive that is currently available.
The 3Gbps SATA F4EG HD comes with a 32MB buffer and has a number of improvements over earlier models including a 19% boost in standby performance and a 23% reduction in power consumption when idling in standby mode. The Samsung EcoGreen F4EG hard drive will go on sale in both Europe and the US this September and when it does, we should see it come in at around $120.
